The goal of the Como West Community Garden is to develop edible and native gardens on the site of the Guides Hall. It brings together a fun group of people with a common goal of learning, growing and most importantly eating fabulous fruit and vegetables!
We care about our community and our environment and hope to foster community spirit through shared experiences as we transform our little patch of land with some TLC into a fabulous living, working hub for the community to enjoy.
Our garden beds and their bounty are shared… no personal allotments. We ask you to take what you can use for a meal, respect the needs of the plant and trust you enjoy harvesting enough to want to encourage sowing.
Let the fun begin!

Not into dirt but want to help?
Some of the work undertaken is quite physical and requires specialist equipment. Safety is our priority and so is having fun. You will never be questioned if you are unable or unwilling to perform any activity that we are working on in the garden. It is important to us that you only do what you enjoy or feel that you have the experience or strength to carry out. If you’d like to sit and cheer from the sideline that’s absolutely fine. If your skill is making afternoon tea, there is a place for you in our group… and our hearts.
Learn new skills and try new things
You’re not alone! Most of us are enthusiastic beginners and sometimes the desire to start a garden seems overwhelming. The best thing about a community garden is that you don’t have to live with your mistakes. Enjoy learning new skills in a fun and hands on environment – learn from one another… that is what community gardening is all about. Most of what we will be doing for the next few years is growing healthy soil from dirt and mulch… the fruit and veges are a bonus… that is pretty difficult to muck up!
